THE MUNICIPALITIES

 

There are 7 municipalities in the Karhuseutu area (4 cities and 3 communes):

 

Harjavalta

HiittenharjuAt Hiittenharju sports centre you can practice different sporting activities the all year.

 

The village of Hiirijärvi was elected village of the year 2007

 

laituri The hiking and outdoor association of Harjavalta’s sauna and swimming facilities.

 

Kokemäki

8515 inhabitants, website

 

The Puurijärvi-Isosuo national park offers unique natural scenery at the heart of a cultural environment by the Kokemäenjoki River. Large marshy areas and the shallow and rich lake Puurijärvi, which is an internationally renowned for its birdlife, belong to the national park.

 

 The village of Kauvatsa is an important strawberry cultivating area.  

 

Luvia

3392 inhabitants, website

 

 

The seaside municipality of Luvia boasts an exquisite archipelago. One of its islands is the exceptional island of Säppi, where you can find one of the most beautiful lighthouses in Finland. 

 

 Luvia has strong traditions in shipbuilding. A traditional sailboat being built in Laitakari. 

  

Nakkila

6000 inhabitants, website


 

 The Arantila rapids lure fisherman to the banks of the salmon-rich Kokemäenjoki to fish its abundant waters.
 

 

 Nakkilan Seudun Harmonikat ry association is a lively association for young accordion players. The association has been internationally active. 

 

 

 

 

Pori

The city has 83 019 inhabitants and it is the centre of the Satakunta province. 10600 inhabitants of the Karhuseutu association’s area of operation live in Pori, website

 

 

The high street of village Ahlainen has been elected one of Finland’s cultural landscapes. 
 

 

 Reposaari is an idyllic fishing village which had a notable role already during days of sailboats due to its location. It is an island where the river meets the sea, and it has therefore been an important port for the sawmill industry, amongst others.

 

Yyteri is Finland's best known and most beautiful beach, where one can engage in wind-surfing, for example. Yyteri’s alluvium is known by ornithologists all over the world.

 

 An old lighthouse which now serves as a pilot station for the BSF sailing club in Kallo. People gather on the rocks of Kallo to admire huge waves during storms. 
 

 

Ulvila

13800 inhabitants, website

 

 There are 12 lively villages in Ulvila.

 

The beautiful Leineperi iron works, were many different artisans practice their trade, and where markets are held annually. 

 

 Joutsijärvi offers an excellent environment for camping and hiking, with the Sataseitti hiking-network.
